Lines you might have that this example does not
- Unsocial EN
- Extra pay for weekday evening hours after 8pm, on their own line on some payslips. Same rate as nights.
- Weekday OT, Saturday OT, Sunday OT
- Overtime: hours over 37.5 in a week, paid at time and a half, which is your hourly rate plus half again. Bands 8a and above don't get overtime pay.
- Bank Hol OT
- Overtime on a bank holiday, paid at double time: twice your hourly rate.
- Additional Hours
- Extra hours if you're part time. They're paid at your normal hourly rate until you go over 37.5 hours in a week. They count towards your pension.
- AfC Absence NP
- Holiday pay on overtime you work regularly. NP means it doesn't count towards your pension.
- OSP and SSP
- Sick pay. Full pay is your basic pay plus any London supplement, but for most staff not your unsocial hours pay. How long you get full pay, and then half pay, depends on how long you've worked in the NHS.
- Inner London, Fringe
- The other London supplements: 20% for Inner London and 5% for the Fringe, just outside London. Each has its own minimum and maximum.
- RRP
- Extra pay some jobs get to help recruit or keep staff, called a recruitment and retention premium. If it's long-term, it counts towards your pension and your unsocial hours pay.
- Arrs
- Back pay, shown on the line it belongs to. For example, Basic Pay Arrs if your pay step went up late or you moved up a band.
- On Call
- Pay for being on call. Each trust sets its own rates.
- Salary sacrifice
- Pay you give up for something like a lease car or bike scheme. It shows as a minus number on the left. It lowers your tax, National Insurance and pension.
- WTD Pay
- An older name for holiday pay on unsocial hours. Some trusts still use it for bank staff, whose holiday builds up with the hours they work.
These explanations are general, not financial advice, and some may be wrong or out of date: pay rules change, and your trust may do something this example does not. The payslip follows a real ESR layout and every figure on it is invented from the same published pay scales the calculator uses. Always check your own payslip. If something here is wrong, we are sorry, and we would like to know: use Spot a mistake and we will check it against the source. See the full methodology and disclaimer.
